What's Isoflavone

How much to be taken

Health damage has never been attributed to isoflavones throughout its long history of being taken as a foodstuff. There are, however, many reports of the lowering the risk of life style diseases among people who take many soybeans and soybean products.
Besides our confidence about the excellent safety of isoflavones, a natural ingredient of soybeans, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour set the upper limit of intake in addition to a daily dietary intake at 30mg/day (aglycon). In the course of a discussion for this matter the Food Safety Commission reported 70-75mg as the safe average intake.
In recent years, Japanese intake of isoflavones have been declining (present average about 18mg/day). Based on the results of our extensive research and intervention studies, as an example, for maintenance of current bone mass 25mg per day is approved by the Japanese FOSHU guidelines, and for treatment effect, for aiming at more positive improvement 70-75mg is considered to be adequate, and we advise '75mg per day as a target'.
