Risk of Localized Prostate Cancer is lowered in higher Isoflavone Intake group

A Prospective Study was conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour. In a follow-up study carried out on about 43,000 men who responded to a detailed dietary habits investigation after a period of 6-9 years, it was found that the greater the intake of isoflavones the lower the risk of localized prostate cancer. In particular, for men over 60 years of age this was more apparent, in the case of a group of the highest intake of soy foods, genistein and daidzein it was lowered by half in comparison with the smallest intake group.
The study team considers that isoflavones have a function to delay the progress period from a latent cancer to a clinical cancer.
The relation was not observed in progressive cancers, probably due to a small number of subjects with progressive cancer.
