High Blood Isoflavone (Genistein) Level group shows lower Breast Cancer Incidence Rate

Five years after presentation of the afore-mentioned report, a control study utilizing the preserved blood of subjects of the same Prospective Study of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour was made open. This is a comparative analysis study of blood from 144 patients with newly developed breast cancer during the follow-up period of 10.5 years with the blood from total 432 controls who had no breast cancer.
The results showed the breast cancer risk of the group with the highest genistein concentration was about 1/3 (0.34 times) that of the lowest group. When this is converted to a daily intake, it is equivalent to 46.5mg (genistein 28.5mg) of isoflavones.
The study refutes a hypothesis that 'isoflavones may raise breast cancer risk', stating that even at high concentrations no increase of risk was observed, rather a decrease was observed.
Besides, with regard to daidzein, no similar relation was observed, and the study team attributes this to the effect of equol obscuring the relation.
