Intake of 100mg Isoflavones lowers Serum Total Cholesterol and LDL Cholesterol

There is a meta-analysis of 11 studies selected from the randomized controlled trials reported in the period from 1990 to 2006 investigating isoflavones' improvement effect on serum lipid.
According to this analysis, after controlling effect by ingesting of soy protein, as the result of taking 102mg/day isoflavones for 1-3 months, it was found that on average, total serum cholesterol was reduced by 0.10mmol/L and LDL cholesterol 0.13mmol/L, but there was no effect on HDL cholesterol and triacylglycerol.
From these analyses it was reported that isoflavones lower total serum cholesterol and LDL cholesterol significantly, no effect on HDL cholesterol and triacylglycerol were found, and that in the case of combined ingestion with soy protein, synergistic reduction was suggested.
